What's going on?

I finally got around to bottling all that beer I made a couple weeks ago!

A correction, and why you might want to host your own services

I wrote all that yesterday about github's bubble-driven irrationalities, and I forgot the most important part! You can switch to many different providers, but the one I'm looking at is

https://codeberg.org

and it's extremely easy to switch git providers because git is free and open source software, which means you can run it any time you want, anywhere you want, including your own computer! Try Gitea, or forgefed!

https://about.gitea.com/

https://forgefed.org/

And while it might be more hassle to host your own services it really isn't all that hard, and you get peace of mind knowing you own every aspect of your online presence. For example this blog is hosted on neocities but it's static HTML, and all neocities does is serve my files to you. Were neocities to shut down tomorrow I could republish all my blog to somewhere else, every paage is first written on my computer, backed up on my machines, committed to my git repo and uploaded to neocities. I'm treating these as my notes, and it's important to me that I own them, and for me that means it starts on machines I own and only goes to someone else's computer when I'm satisfied I can retrieve it later.

And there's lots of software you can host yourself without even leaving your network! There's a fantastic list of software you might want to run, including blogs, calendars, social media or even Community Supported Agriculture!

One of my favorite comfort foods is something my uncle invented years ago he called poor man's casserole, family legend has it he threw it together out of just what was in the kitchen

[ ] 2 pkg tofu
[ ] Nutritional yeast
[ ] Garlic powder
[ ] 1 pkg frozen peas
[ ] 1 pkg French fried onions
[ ] 1 can cream of mushroom soup

  1. cube the tofu and press to remove the water, at least an hour.
  2. season tofu with nutritional yeast and garlic powder.
  3. make the shells and cheese as it says on the box.
  4. mix peas, shells and cheese, tofu, the cream of mushroom soup, and half the box of french fried onions.
  5. pour mix into a baking dish and cover with the remaining french fried onions.
  6. bake at 350 for 45 minutes.
