This seems right, we need static stores of known-good information that we can invite edits to, that will retrieve useful information later, it's pretty similar to community bookmarking actually.

The semi-fixity of wikis allow users to build relations between information slowly over time, which means they can better leverage network effects in the information graphs we construct. Compare to social media where feeds are designed to have posts used once and thrown away, which is why keeping receipts is so effective on there.
